Among them, Seweweekspoort peak, the highest in the Western Cape at 2325 m. and the iconic Towerkop (2198 m) with its split peak and legendary tales.

Trails, Trails & More Trails

Mountain biking and 4×4 routes weave through hills, riverbeds, and valleys, including the breathtaking Seweweekspoort – a gorge with awe-inspiring ripple-like rock formations cutting through the mountain for 17 km. Seweweekspoort Peak is also the highest point in the Western Cape Province, at 2325 m. Towersig trail boasts magnificent 360° views of the surrounding area, while the Stanley’s “Liggie” (light) trail takes you on a scenic hike 12 km up Elandsberg.

Fact: The “liggie” (light) was once considered the smallest hydro-electric ‘plant’ in the world.

Heritage & Local Flavours

Step back in time exploring this charming dorpie’s 9 different building styles, including the unique “Ladismith style” which is a simplified Georgian style. Ten buildings hold Provincial Heritage Site status (three churches and seven houses). The fertile land here offers fresh and dried fruit, artisanal cheese, and wines that celebrate the region’s rich agricultural heritage.

Ladismith has a unique water seepage tunnel, constructed around 1910-1912, that naturally purifies mountain water.
