Jan Harmsgat Country House

Dating back to 1723, Jan Harmsgat is a welcoming place to slow down and enjoy country living. Set between Swellendam and Ashton, beneath the Langeberg Mountains, the property is surrounded by pomegranate and pecan nut orchards. Guests can take a walk through the orchards, enjoy the mountain views or relax beside the swimming pool, reserved for Country House guests.

The Country House offers five-star accommodation in 10 rooms, each with its own blend of old-world farm charm and modern luxury. Room check-in is from 14:00 to 17:00, and check-out is by 10:00.

Jan Harmsgat Restaurant is open daily from 08:00 to 17:00, serving breakfast and lunch. Dinner is available on selected evenings by prior reservation. The menus feature seasonal dishes and fresh produce from the farm, with country-style cooking that will give you a reason to return. Pomegranate slushies are a favourite too.

The farm shop offers a selection of local products, including Jan Harmsgat’s own pomegranate juice and single-block boutique wines, award-winning Mardouw extra virgin olive oil and Kalamata olives, and more. Wine tastings are available by reservation between 11:00 and 17:00, and farm drives can be arranged in advance. The property also has a function venue and a conference meeting room.

Jan Harmsgat also hosts intimate weddings, special celebrations and year-end functions, with each event planned around your unique needs.
