CERES TOURISM OFFICE
Ceres is reached from the south by crossing the rugged Michell’s Pass, completed in 1848 by the famous road engineer Andrew Geddes Bain. Ceres is situated on a fertile plain surrounded by magnificent mountains and is one of the country’s most important deciduous fruit growing centres. Visitors can enjoy farm tours, pick cherries in season, and taste locally produced fruit juices, home-made preserves and dried fruit.
The Dwars River flowing through the centre of town eventually becomes the Breede River, which meanders down to the coast at Witsand enriching many R62 settlements on the way. Ceres has a thriving arts and crafts community and is home to the largest toy car collection in SA.
San rock art can be appreciated at the famous Kagga Kamma private reserve and 4X4 enthusiasts have a number of options available to them. For the energetic there is horse and quad riding, abseiling, skydiving and hiking and accommodation is plentiful.
