Bonnievale Tourism

Bonnievale is a small country village situated along the banks of the Breede River and is surrounded with the Riviersonderend and Langeberge.

Its unique in that it's the only town in South Africa that can offer you an abundance of cheese, wine and river scenery all in one. The typical old farm scenes date back from its noble beginning at the end of the 1800's.

For a tourist the 64 km scenic circle route along the Breede River and adjacent countryside is a must. The scenery offers hectares of vineyards, cows, fruit trees and horse studs with the river in constant sight. On this route you can visit our well known cheese factories, which manufacture more than 100 tons of cheese a day, and stop over at one of the nine cellars for some wine tasting.

If you are still hungry after all this we have 5 restaurants in the area to enjoy. Other attractions are a lovely Golf course, a Koi farm, boat trips on the river and 4x4 trips. For the historians visit our Myrtle Rigg church, the only one built in the world as a result of a wish from a dying 10 year old little girl Mary.

The town has a population of 14 750 people and about 25 000 cows. Most of the employed work in the cheese and wine industry.
