The small but vibrant town of Kareedouw is conveniently situated on a crossroad linking it to many other regions. Only 8 kms over the Tsitsikamma mountains finds one on the N2, an hour from Plettenberg Bay and even less to Jeffreys Bay. It is also a gateway to the Baviaanskloof Wilderness area lying to the north and is close to the Formosa Nature Reserve.

The town derives it's income primarily from farming and forestry and has paid tribute to past woodcutters with the erection of a statue. The famous Rensilfier furniture factory produces fine blackwood, yellowwood and stinkwood furniture.

The town derives it's name form the Khoi phrase meaning a path or pass by the Karee trees. The attractive Dutch Reformed Church, constructed with stone, is a landmark and the memorial garden alongside, the final resting place of ex prime minister John Vorster.
