Calitzdorp is known as the port capital of South Africa and it's wineries have won awards both nationally and abroad.

It is approached from the west by the scenic Huis River Pass and Oudtshoorn is a scant 50 kms away to the east. Turning off the main road into the quiet streets visitors discover the real charm of the town with it's pretty gardens and lovely old buildings. Calitzdorp has several restaurants where you can enjoy your meal outdoors, art galleries and a museum to wander through, plus free classical organ recitals on weekday evenings.

There are a number of worthwhile “off the beaten track” excursions including the drive over the Rooiberg Pass to Van Wyksdorp and the route via Groenfontein to Kruisrivier and the Red Stone Hills. The aloe covered hills and rich succulent plantlife of Matjiesvlei, en route to the Gamka River, are also worth seeing. The rejuvenating Calitzdorp Spa is also just a short drive away.
